It's good in a pinch in that it helps test for a no spark condition, but diagnosing a weak spark is another matter. The bulb will still light up, tho perhaps not as brightly (depending on how weak the spark is). A spark that falls just shy in firing an engine might look just dandy with this thing, so be careful.
A true spark tester with an adjustable gap screw on it is a much better choice and not much more $.

I also got it for $2.99. Works like it's supposed to: pull the plug wire, put the boot on the plug, and the metal connector in the plug wire and start it up. If you have spark, it will light up.
Hint: test the device on a known good plug wire to make sure the tester works.

I bought this for $2.99 to help diagnose a no-start. Works as advertised, and is easy to install, without removing the spark plug from the engine. The bulb flashes if the engine has spark. The engine even runs with the tester in place (assuming there's nothing wrong with the engine).
