I bought mine for $549 (missed the sales and coupons) - BUT - I would buy this lathe again!!! :^)
Works right out of the box. If you know nothing about metal lathes (like me) please get this one. 3/4 hp AC motor is solid, bed (ways) are induction hardened, plenty of oil ports, threading gears included, hand tools, timing belt and v-belt included, 2mt and 3mt dead centers included. No variable speed circuit board to fry and make it an orphan - the speeds are controlled by changing the belt drive on the pulleys.
I researched extensively on the internet and decided I didn't want the 7x10 or 7x12 due to the work that everyone has to do to get them to work right.
The 8x12 is identical to the LatheMaster 8x14. Even the 9x20 lathe needs modifications before it is rigid and reliable.

Got it on sale for $436, after a 25% off coupon. Mine did not look exactly as in the picture. It had metal handle, not plastic looking as in the picture above (got it in winter 2009). This lathe is great. Powerful, work right out the box, as oil ports everywhere, very good quality. I research a lot on internet before getting it and this one consistantly get great review from owner. It appears to be the exact same as the very well liked lathemaster 8 by 14 lathe (even the bed length is the same, even though stated as 14 and not 12) Certainly one of the very best bang for your buck for a lathe. I STRONGLY recommand it!
