Push the wire under the plate and tighten the screw. No need to wrap the wire around the screw. Strain relief is provided where the cord goes in the plug. I have repaired a couple of 12 gauge cords with these. They work fine. Seal them with black RTV silcone to keep them water tight.

One negative - the unit was assembled with hot and return wire screws reversed.
The brass screw was on the return (white wire) side and the nickel screw on the return (white wire) side. Ground screw was a proper green.

Just used on to replace defective molded receptacle on an extension cord. 16 gauge stranded can be wrapped around the screw under the brass plate, but screws are too short for 12 gauge. Works fine so far. Haven't used enough to have an opinion on durability.

Duh! The wire goes under the brass plate on the terminal block, not around the screw. They work fine and are far cheaper than the comparable ones at the big box store.

Do NOT buy this! The screws inside are TINY!! Too small to wrap a 14 gauge stranded wire around. Same goes for the 125 volt 15 amp male plug connector. I got these on sale for 99 cents and had to throw them in the trash. They do no work.
