Very weak motor. Convenient for automotive work if you want to run off the battery (some cobblng required), or on the boat, etc. but any Dremel and a 12V inverter will kick its a$$ for material-removal power.

I got one of these as a gift it worth about 5 bucks. honestly i wouldnt give them that much. Its way underpowered. You cant really do much with it (But before a bought a name brand dremel I used it alot.) Really all i got out of it were the cheap accessories. I still have it but i hardly use it. Also its got this little connection in the middle of the cord so when you go to far with it it detaches(supposably to keep from ripping out the cord out of the tool or the wall plug) thats a pain since during regular use can cause it to loosen. Just bypass this one get get name brand or the one above these one that about 20 bucks.

I wouldn't waste your money on this. It doesn't have enough power to for even the easiest tasks.

As a new home owner undertaking a pretty massive remodeling project, I needed to buy a lot of tools. It was around this time that I discovered Harbor Freight with its cheap prices and enticing selection of "goodies". After reading about all of the useful things one can do with a rotary tool, I decided to pick up this rotary tool when I saw it on sale. I really want to like this little guy, but at the end of the day, I'm just not satisfied with it.
I like the way this rotary tool looks and feels in my hand. It came with a nice variety of accessories to get you started. It runs well, even after a few minutes of continuous use. I got my money out this purchase sanding down door frames after changing the door knobs and strike plates.
The main problem is that the tool just doesn't have enough torque to get the job done. I was happy with the results of sanding the door frames around the strike plates and latches, but it just took way too long. The tool bogs down when you place it against the work piece. At first, I thought I was putting too much pressure on it, so I eased off and tried letting the tool do the work. Same result. It's just too weak to use on anything but the most basic jobs. If this little guy had a little more power, I would absolutely love it.
The on/off switch has developed a short, so the tool now will run at a reduced speed for a few seconds every time I lay it down unless I do it it "just right." I know I could get it serviced under warranty, but at the price I paid, its not worth it. Not a deal breaker in and of its self, but it's aggravating.
I've had a lot of good luck out of the tools I've bought at Harbor Freight, but this rotary tool is not one of them. Even at less than $10, I'd be hard pressed to recommend it. It works, but is not strong enough to do all of the neat stuff you can potentially do with a rotary tool. My recommendation is to spend a little more an
