This planer qualifies as a "Harbor Freight Gem" in my book. I bought it at full price with one of those 20% off coupons -- $200 plus tax, and it's a terrific deal in my opinion, even when it's not on sale. This is the only planer anywhere near its price range that doesn't suffer from terrible snipe problems, and the dust collection works superbly. Unlike all the other planers in the under-$500 category, this one has the adjusting screws in all 4 posts, so the planer head can't rock back-&-forth and cause sniping at the end of your board. Very solid little machine, and mine is very accurate (and was perfectly aligned out of the box, unlike deardorff's..).

With all the discounts it cost me $192 including tax. Slightly underpowered so don't take off too much on anything very wide. Dust collection works great. Platten and cutterhead are not quite parallel. Had to shim up one side of the platten about 0.010" to get uniform thickness from one side to the other. I've run about 500 feet of mahogany thru the planer without any problems. The HF site doesn't list replacement blades but I think they are #93620. I'm going to buy 2 sets to be sure I have them before they are discontinued. Instructions are very limited. Note, do NOT pick up the machine with the 2 roller bars on top. Were to pick up the machine is not obvious but you'll figure it out. Again great price for an OK surface planer for somebody who needs one infrequently while restoring fiberglass sailboats. Hope this helps.
