I am a professional mechanic and use both the 3/8 and 1/2 inch versions. The 3/8 ratchet wears out after about 6 months and starts turning roughly. Cleaning out the ratchet mechanism and using a light oil makes the action much better. The 1/2 inch version is dangerous when worn. If using a worn 1/2 drive the ratchet teeth will strip right off with no warning. Having this happen when applying several hundred pounds of torque can cause the ratchet to fly off the fastener, smashed fingers and bloody knuckles, elbow injuries from striking surroundings, or even punching yourself in the face hard enough to break your teeth.

This ratchet, like the 1/4" and 1/2" drive versions is a snap-on knock off. It is way better than the craftsman raised panel ratchets. The ratchet is smooth (after you lubricate it)and quite strong. The chrome is good and the handle feels great. The release works great. Make sure it says Taiwan on the handle.
A great buy.

I'm pretty impressed with this ratchet so far. I opened it up and put a little grease on the gears. The action is smooth and quiet. Positive lock up, no jumping or catching. The direction swith may be plastic. The swithc doesn't seem to stick to a magnet, but I haven't tried to scrape it to see if it's aluminum or some other non-ferrous metal. Socket reatiner mechanism works well. Button is smooth and rounded. Nice finish and shape. Have had no functonal isses at all in several months of use.

This is a great ratchet for the price. I've used it with a 12ft pipe to take of some bolts of the Cylinder heads on my Mustang and it didn't break at all. Lasted much longer than my Craftsman ratchets so far.
